Weather Update: Showers Expected in Some Areas Today
The Department of Meteorology has forecasted showers in certain provinces today. They have issued warnings for rough seas along the coastal areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil. This includes Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
According to the weather forecast for Monday, several spells of showers are expected in the Northern Province, while light showers are anticipated in the Galle and Matara districts. Elsewhere, the weather will remain mostly fair.
Strong winds of 40-45 km/h are likely in the Northern, North-central, Northwestern, Western, Central, and Southern provinces.
In the sea areas, showers or thundershowers are expected in places extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai.
Winds will be westerly to southwesterly, with speeds ranging from 30-40 km/h around the island. In some sea areas, wind speeds may increase to 60 km/h, particularly from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai, and up to 50 km/h in the regions from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
The sea areas from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai will be rough at times, while the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota will be fairly rough. Swell waves reaching 2.5–3.0 meters in height may occur off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle. Strong gusty winds and rough seas are anticipated during thundershowers.
