Copper Strips Worth Rs. 5.1 Million Stolen from Isurupaya Building

The Talangama Police have questioned at least eight employees regarding the theft of copper strips valued at Rs. 5.1 million from the Isurupaya building, which houses the Education Ministry in Pelawatta, Battaramulla.

Among those questioned are employees holding various roles within the ministry.

The copper strips, used as lightning conductors and measuring 1,731 feet in total, were installed on the rooftop of the building.

The investigation began after a Development Officer from the ministry filed a complaint with the Talangama Police.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that access to the rooftop was restricted to ministry employees, making it unlikely that outsiders could have gained entry. Despite the presence of security guards at the site, the stolen copper strips were removed and taken away.

The investigation is still ongoing.
