Venerable Ampitiya Sumanarathana Thero entered a government bank and caused a riot
Venerable Ambitiya Sumanarathana Thero has alleged that people’s money is being looted in state-owned banks and that money deposited in his bank was stolen.
He has made this allegation by inciting a riot at the Batticaloa People’s Bank.
A video related to the incident has been released showing him severely abusing bank officials and security personnel and threatening and assaulting them.
Furthermore, as he said, the looting of innocent people’s money continues in state-owned banks, but no action is being taken against it.
He has accused the heads of banks of failing to prevent the theft of deposits.
He has himself questioned how money deposited in his bank account was deposited in another bank’s account.
He has stressed that the Governor of the country’s Central Bank and the Finance Minister should take responsibility for this issue.
The Thero has said that he is ready to leave the bank without any problems if the money is given.
