Putin wants to meet Donald Trump: End nine-year war
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said it is important to meet US President Donald Trump.
Putin has listed the Ukraine war and energy prices as key issues Trump will discuss in the first five days of his new administration.
Putin added that he does not expect the US president to decide on sanctions and that the US government should adopt the right approach before that happens.
Putin also said that the arbitrary pressure to cancel the 2022 decree would have helped the West to advance peace talks in Ukraine before then.
Trump, who recently took office for a second term, said he would like to meet Putin and end the war in Ukraine.
Trump also warned that the US would face tougher sanctions again if Russia did not participate in the talks.
In this context, this response from the Russian president is said to express Russia’s interest in holding early talks with Trump, after three years of no summits with Western leaders due to the war in Ukraine.
