Bad Weather – Number of Affected People on the Rise
Since the 13th of this month, 92,471 people from 27,751 families have been affected by the ongoing severe weather conditions.
The Disaster Management Centre has reported that all provinces, except the Western Province, have experienced the impact of the bad weather.
In recent days, heavy rainfall has caused significant damage in the Eastern Province, particularly in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee, where 56,878 people from 17,952 families have been affected.
Additionally, the Northern Province has been impacted, with 29,299 people from 7,970 families in the districts of Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Vavuniya, and Mannar being affected.
In the North Central Province, 4,599 people from 1,369 families in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts have been affected.
Meanwhile, a total of 319 houses have sustained partial damage due to the severe weather conditions.
As of yesterday (26th), the Disaster Management Centre reported that 438 people from 142 families in certain provinces have been relocated to safer areas.
