Police officer dies after being hit by tipper
A police officer has died in an accident that occurred on the Habarana – Trincomalee road under the Habarana Police Division last night (26), the Ethimala Police said.
The deceased is a 56-year-old officer working at the Habarana Police Station.
The deceased police officer was on traffic duty on the Habarana – Trincomalee road when he was hit by a tipper vehicle, thrown onto the road and collided with a lorry and a car traveling in the opposite direction.
The police officer, who was seriously injured in the accident, died after being admitted to the Habarana Hospital, police said.
Also, during the accident, another police officer who was on traffic duty, a female passenger in the car, a 4-year-old child and the driver of the lorry were seriously injured and were admitted to the Habarana Hospital and then transferred to the Dambulla Hospital for further treatment.
Following this, the driver of the tipper vehicle has been arrested by the police on suspicion.
The Ethimala Police are conducting further investigations in this regard.
