Government plan to reduce the number of civil servants
The National People’s Power (NPP) government has been accused of planning to reduce the number of civil servants by 36 percent.
This allegation was made by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament Nalin Bandara.
He said that the current government has decided to take this decision based on the agreement signed by the previous government with the International Monetary Fund.
He said that a plan has been proposed to reduce the number of civil servants by more than five hundred thousand.
Nalin Bandara said that Senior Advisor to the President Duminda Hulangamuwa had recently commented on this.
He further stated that steps will be taken in this regard in the upcoming budget. However, the government has not yet made any official announcement on the decision to reduce the number of civil servants.
