77th National Independence Day: Decision taken by the government
The government has decided to hold the 77th National Independence Day celebrations at a low cost at the Independence Square complex in Colombo.
The Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Chandana Abeerathna, has stated that the celebrations should be held with pride and dignity to showcase the pride of the country.
He made this statement while attending the first organizing committee meeting of the 77th National Independence Day celebrations held this year (30).
He also said that considering the country’s economic situation, attention should be paid to holding the celebrations at a low cost.
The Minister said that while 107 million rupees were spent on the Independence Day celebrations last year, this year’s celebrations should be held in a better manner by controlling expenses.
He added that the public will also be given an opportunity to witness the Independence Day celebrations.
