Fuel shortage risk – Petroleum distributors warn

Following the decision of the Sri Lanka Petroleum Corporation to cancel the three percent discount, the Petroleum Distributors Association has warned that there may be a fuel shortage across the country.

In protest against this decision, the association has withdrawn from petroleum regulatory activities from midnight yesterday. Following this, the association has decided to stop fuel supply to hospitals and other government institutions, said its vice president Kusum Chandanayake.

However, the Sri Lanka Petroleum Corporation has assured that there will be no fuel shortage. It has also been announced that consumers should not panic unnecessarily.

In this situation, discussions will be held with petroleum distributors in the future to address the issues, said Sri Lanka Petroleum Corporation Chairman T.J. Rajakaruna.

Now, people are waiting in long queues to buy fuel across the country.
