Today’s Weather: Heavy rains to fall in many places!
The Department of Meteorology has stated in a statement issued today (23) that heavy rains are likely to occur in many places in the Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.
According to the statement, heavy rains of up to 50 mm are likely to occur in some places in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Uva, Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Hambantota and Matara districts.
Furthermore, strong winds at a speed of 30-40 kmph are likely to blow in the eastern slopes of the Central Highlands, some parts of the North, North-Western and Eastern provinces, and in the Matale, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
It has also been stated that foggy weather may be observed in some parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Western provinces and Galle district in the morning.
The public has been advised to take precautionary measures to avoid damage caused by lightning strikes and strong winds during thunderstorms.
