Thunderstorms in the country: Warning issued to the public
The Department of Meteorology today (04.01.2025) announced that light rain is expected in the Uva Province.
Furthermore, there is a possibility of rain or thundershowers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and Galle and Matara districts in the evening or night. Heavy rainfall of up to 100 mm is expected at some places in these areas.
Moderately strong winds with a speed of up to 30-40 kmph are likely to occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and the Hambantota district.
Foggy conditions are expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and the Galle and Matara districts in the morning.
Temporary strong winds may also blow in these areas during the thunderstorms.
The public is advised to take the necessary precautions to minimize the potential damage caused by lightning strikes.
