Rain in the North and East from today – Department of Meteorology
According to a new announcement issued by the Department of Meteorology, rain is likely to increase in the Northern, North Central and Eastern provinces of the country, as well as in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts for the next few days from today.
This rain is likely to occur intermittently in the Northern, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts. Heavy rain of up to 75 mm is likely to occur in some areas.
Furthermore, there is a possibility of rain or thundershowers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in the Kandy district during the evening and night.
Winds at a speed of 30-40 kmph are likely to occur in some places in the Northern, Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces and in Hambantota.
Furthermore, fog is expected to be observed in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces during the morning.
During thunderstorms, there may be temporary strong winds in those areas.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to take necessary safety measures as there is also a possibility of lightning strikes.
