Propeller Plane Crash on Texas Highway Injures Four People

A twin-engine propeller plane crashed onto a highway in Texas on Wednesday afternoon, splitting in two and damaging several vehicles, authorities reported. Four people were sent to local hospitals following the incident, which occurred near Victoria, Texas, about 150 miles southwest of Houston.

The Piper PA-31 aircraft, with only the pilot onboard, crashed around 3 p.m. near a highway overpass. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), three vehicles were damaged in the crash, and images from the scene showed the aircraft split at the fuselage, with part of the wreckage resting on top of one car. The FAA has launched an investigation into the crash.

Victoria Police Deputy Chief Eline Moya confirmed that three people sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while one individual was transported to a nearby hospital for more advanced treatment. The pilot was evaluated at the scene.

“This is not something we see every day, but we are glad that people seem to be OK and they’re getting checked out,” Moya said.

Witness Tony Poynor, who was driving near the scene, described hearing the sound of a small plane engine very close to him. “To the left of me, I started seeing the shadow of this plane on the wall,” Poynor recalled. “Then it passed over the top of my truck, still horizontal. About a quarter of a mile in front of me, it started to wobble.”

Poynor said that after the crash, he approached the plane and found the pilot conscious but was unable to remove him from the wreckage.

The FAA is expected to provide more details as the investigation into the Texas plane crash continues. The incident has drawn significant attention due to the rare nature of such crashes on US highways.
