Ministry of Energy’s announcement regarding electricity tariff change
The Ministry of Energy has announced that the Electricity Board has recommended maintaining the current status without changing the electricity tariff, considering the debt outstanding and the expected expenses in the first six months of next year.
At a press conference held at the Government Information Department yesterday, Director General of the Power Sector Reform Bureau, Pubudu Niroshan, made this statement.
It is estimated that 268 billion rupees will have to be incurred in the first six months of next year.
Pubudu Niroshan said that 112 billion rupees of the profits received in the past have been used to repay debts and expenses, and there is a balance of 41 billion rupees at the end of this year.
Based on that, it is planned to use 39 billion rupees out of 41 billion rupees for additional expenses in the first six months of next year. Therefore, the Electricity Board will not make any changes in the tariff in the first six months of next year and will take a decision to handle this properly, he said.
