Large Pothole in Arali Road Bridge – Shocks Public!
A major pothole has appeared on the bridge between Arali Bridge and Arali Junction, causing significant damage. This road is under the jurisdiction of the Road Development Authority and serves as a main route for the 789 bus service.
The pothole measures approximately two feet long and one and a half feet wide. The concrete slab has broken apart, exposing the damage inside. Furthermore, the lack of reinforcement bars in the concrete slab highlights the poor quality of previous repair work, leading to concern and fear among the public.
Thousands of people, including passengers of the 789 bus service, elderly people, schoolchildren, and daily commuters, use this road regularly. Additionally, the narrow width of the road makes it difficult for vehicles to pass each other, posing a serious risk to those traveling on it.
Recently, in the Parandan-Mullaitivu road near Puliampokkan, due to halted repair work on a bridge, two young individuals lost their lives after falling from it. Similarly, the lack of action to repair this damaged bridge further increases the danger for commuters.
The issue has been reported to the Road Development Authority, and they have assured that they will take immediate action.
