Smriti Mandhana, the stand-in captain of India, won the toss and chose to bat first in the second ODI against Ireland in Rajkot. India made no changes to their lineup, retaining the same XI that won the series opener by six wickets on Friday.

With this, India’s young pace attack, consisting of Saima Thakor, Sayali Satghare, and Titas Sadhu, will once again have an opportunity to showcase their skills, while Renuka Singh has been rested for this match. Pratika Rawal and Tejal Hasabnis, two promising batters, will also be closely monitored following their exciting debut performances in the format.

On the other hand, Ireland made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Ava Canning and Alana Dalzell in place of Una-Raymond Hoey and Aimee Maguire. Maguire, who had been one of Ireland’s standout bowlers in the series opener with figures of 3 for 57, was recently reported for a suspect bowling action. She has been given 14 days to undergo testing at an ICC-accredited facility. Although Maguire was eligible to bowl in this game, Ireland’s management opted to make the change, perhaps as a precautionary measure.

India will face a challenge batting first in cooler conditions, where the fast bowlers are likely to exploit the early morning moisture, given the 11 am start. The team will be looking to fine-tune their combination ahead of the home World Cup later this year.

Meanwhile, Ireland is focused on qualifying for the upcoming World Cup. Their performances on this tour will help them gain crucial experience as they prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers.
