Food package prices at risk
The Anuradhapura District Restaurant Owners Association has warned that the current increase in rice prices will trigger an increase in food package prices in the future.
At a press conference held in Anuradhapura today, the association’s president, Indika Aruna Kumara, said, “Due to the rice crisis, many restaurants are expected to close and food prices are expected to increase.”
In this context, the first batch of 5,200 metric tons of rice imported by the government and the second batch of 580 metric tons arrived in the country yesterday. At a press conference held in Colombo, the chairman of the State Trading Corporation, Ravindra Fernando, announced that “the distribution operations will be completed today.”
