240 Iranian Navy Personnel Return Home from Sri Lanka

A total of 240 Iranian naval personnel who had been housed in detention centers in Welisara and Koggala have departed Sri Lanka for Iran aboard a special Turkish aircraft.

The group includes 32 sailors rescued from the sunken IRIS Dena, which was reportedly attacked by a U.S. submarine, and 208 personnel from the IRIS Bushehr.

The Sri Lankan government stated that the repatriation was carried out in line with international humanitarian protocols.

Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekara said that Sri Lanka provided all necessary humanitarian assistance to the affected personnel following the incident that occurred outside its territorial waters.
