Treasure Hunt Near Batticaloa Temple; Tight Police Security Deployed
Heavy police security has been deployed near a well-known temple along the Manmunai main road in Kattankudy, Batticaloa, following reports of a secret treasure excavation attempt.
Nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal activity, including a chief accountant from the Moratuwa Divisional Secretariat, a retired soldier, and a 16-year-old boy.
The suspects were produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court last Friday and have been remanded until the 20th of this month.
The court also ordered that the minor be placed in a juvenile rehabilitation center.
The incident, reportedly driven by belief in hidden treasure at the temple site, has caused significant tension and concern in the area.
