The move comes amid rising Middle East tensions following U.S.–Israel strikes on Iran, and after Pope Leo XIV criticized global leaders in a Vatican address, urging them to avoid “foolish wars” and pursue peace through dialogue.
The remarks reportedly triggered strong reactions from the White House.
In response, Trump lashed out at the Pope, calling him a “left-leaning thinker” and saying he is “not a fan” of his views.
He also warned that the Pope should focus on religious duties rather than politics, adding that attempts to act like a politician could harm the Catholic Church.
