Netanyahu Has Failed : Opposition Leader Yair Lapid Slams Ceasefire Deal

The endorsement of a 14-day U.S.-Iran ceasefire by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has triggered a political firestorm in Israel. Opposition leader Yair Lapid has launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, calling the decision a “political and strategic failure” that compromises the nation’s future.

Lapid’s remarks have sent shockwaves through the Israeli political landscape, as he accused the current leadership of sidelining Israel from its own national security interests.

“A National Humiliation”

In a public statement, Yair Lapid expressed his outrage over Israel’s exclusion from the high-level negotiations that led to the truce:

  • Sidelined from Decisions: Lapid argued that it is a “national humiliation” that Israel was not even at the table when critical decisions regarding its security were being made between Washington and Tehran.
  • Strategic Defeat: He stated that despite the Israeli military and the public fulfilling their roles with “remarkable strength and resilience,” the political leadership failed to translate those efforts into a strategic victory.
  • A Lifeline for Iran: Lapid warned that the two-week pause provides Iran with a vital opportunity to regroup, fortify its defenses, and move closer to its nuclear goals.

Key Targets Not Met

The opposition leader emphasized that none of Netanyahu’s primary wartime objectives have been achieved through this ceasefire:

  1. Nuclear Ambitions: Iran’s nuclear program remains a looming threat with no definitive dismantling in sight.
  2. Proxy Influence: The threat from Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed groups has not been permanently neutralized.
  3. Deterrence: Lapid suggested that the ceasefire signals weakness, allowing Iran to claim a “diplomatic victory” without making significant concessions.

“It will take years to repair the political and strategic damage caused by Netanyahu due to his arrogance and lack of strategic vision,” Lapid added.
