Great News for Retired Government Employees: Revised Pensions Effective from This Month
In a significant update under the 2025 Budget Plan, the Sri Lankan government has officially announced that the revised pension payments for retired public servants will be disbursed starting this month.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, over 500,000 retired public sector employees will benefit from this long-awaited increase in pension payouts.
Minister Prof. Chandana Abeyratne confirmed that this initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to support senior citizens amid rising cost of living and economic inflation. The move is expected to ease the financial burden of retired civil servants and military personnel.
Furthermore, pensions for all government officers and armed forces personnel who retired on or before January 1, 2017, have now been officially revised based on circular 04/2019 dated May 31, 2019. The calculation aligns with the 2017 salary structure, ensuring a fair and upgraded pension system.
