President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his Independence Day message, has called upon all Sri Lankans, both domestically and internationally, to channel their utmost efforts into the honorable task of revitalizing the nation.
He emphasized that the progress achieved so far is a result of the unwavering support from the citizens who endured hardships in alignment with a comprehensive, long-term national rebuilding program. “Throughout this journey, challenges will gradually dissipate, life’s burdens will lighten, the economy will strengthen, and Mother Sri Lanka will experience a renaissance,” he stated.
Reflecting on the country’s history since gaining independence in 1948, the President lamented the deviation from global expectations that envisioned Sri Lanka as a developed nation in the East. Instead, the nation grappled with economic difficulties. President Wickremesinghe stressed the importance of learning from past mistakes and avoiding their repetition.
“As we celebrate the 75th year of our nation’s independence, we faced the indignity of being labeled a financially bankrupt country. However, as we mark the 76th Independence Day, we have effectively navigated through these challenges, steering the economy toward stability despite numerous impediments and challenges,” the President affirmed.
Looking forward, he urged the nation to collectively resolve, on this Independence Day, to persist on the current growth trajectory and reinstate prosperity. The President invited all Sri Lankans, both at home and abroad, to contribute their utmost energy to the noble mission of rebuilding the nation.
