Rituals to Erase Karmic Sins on Thai Amavasai
On special days like Amavasai and Pournami, divine energy is believed to be at its peak. The rituals and acts of charity performed on these days offer immense benefits and are considered to be highly auspicious.
Particularly, it is said that any action performed on Amavasai, whether a prayer or a charitable act, is blessed by the grace of our ancestors and holds great significance.
Among all the Amavasai days, Thai Amavasai is considered one of the most important. Every month’s Amavasai is a day suitable for remembering and praying for our ancestors. Furthermore, it is said that performing prayers to female deities on Amavasai brings immense benefits.
In 2025, Thai Amavasai falls on January 29th, Wednesday. The charity and rituals performed on this day are believed to remove our karmic sins and ancestral curses, granting us their blessings.
Daily acts of charity help mitigate our karmic deeds, and on Amavasai, any charity performed on this day is said to remove ancestral curses and misfortunes, drawing the grace of our forebears.
When we receive the blessings of our ancestors, success in all endeavors is assured. Additionally, our family lineage will continue to flourish.
For this reason, our ancestors have passed down the tradition of offering food to cows and grains to crows on Amavasai.
On Thai Amavasai, it is believed that if we also offer another specific item, our karmic sins from past lives are removed. That offering is sesame seeds (ellu). It is customary to perform a ritual with sesame for our ancestors. Offering sesame seeds to cows and crows on this day brings immeasurable blessings.
For the cow, we should offer sesame seeds with a bit of jaggery, and for the crow, we should mix sesame powder with some sweets and form it into small round balls, offering them as a charitable act.
By performing this ritual, not only will we remove the curses and misfortunes of our ancestors, but we will also receive their blessings in abundance. Furthermore, our past life sins and all difficulties will be removed.
Whether we offer something to the cow or the crow, or to both, this charitable act will resolve all problems and bring immense blessings into our lives.
