Minister releases information on Myanmar refugees
Regarding Myanmar asylum seekers in Sri Lanka, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has indicated:
He stated that the deportation of Rohingya asylum seekers who recently arrived in the Mullaitivu waters is currently being examined.
He added that a decision on the matter will be taken after carrying out legal procedures and discussions.
He also stated that the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held talks with the Myanmar government.
He further stated that the names of Rohingya asylum seekers in Sri Lanka have already been handed over to the Myanmar government.
Therefore, the Minister said that they will be detained in Sri Lanka until the talks with the authorities are concluded.
