Fishermen are protesting for a solution to the landing problem.
Jaffna – Chaavalgattu fishermen started a protest today demanding a solution to the landing problem they are facing.
The fishermen’s protest, which started before the Jaffna district action at 8:30 this morning, reached the Northern Province Governor’s Secretariat. The fishermen of Shaavalgattu who met the Chief Minister at the District Secretariat made their problems known.
They continued their protest by blocking the entrance of the Governor’s Secretariat and sitting in front of the entrance. The fishermen, who continued the protest and said that they would stop the protest only after meeting the governor, continued the protest till noon.
The protest was temporarily stopped after the secretary of the Northern Province governor M. Nandagopalan said that he cannot meet the governor today as he is not in Jaffna and that he will be able to meet the governor on the 8th.
