CEB employees reinstated!
62 employees who were protesting demanding the privatization of the Ceylon Electricity Board have been reinstated after their work was suspended.
The decision was announced on the orders of Energy Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody.
With this decision, all existing charges against the employees have been withdrawn, they have been reinstated to their previous jobs, and the fines have been waived.
In addition, the order to pay 8 months of salary arrears as a fine imposed on the employees has been completely lifted. In this, Minister Jayakody issued letters to the employees on the 24th to ensure their reinstatement.
Several trade unions had protested against the privatization plan of the Ceylon Electricity Board in January.
At that time, former Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had ordered the authorities to take action against the employees who were involved in the protest. Although electricity supply has been declared an essential service, some employees have reportedly suspended work, causing inconvenience to consumers.
