Bribed Immigration and Emigration Department official arrested
An Immigration and Emigration Department official who received a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh has been arrested on charges of bribery and corruption.
According to a complaint filed by a person from Nallur North, Jaffna, it has been reported that the suspect accepted the bribe money to arrange for the release of the complainant, who was arrested on charges of staying in Sri Lanka without a visa, from the Welisara Immigration and Emigration Agency.
The suspect was an officer on duty at the Welisara Detention Center of the Immigration Department.
On the afternoon of the 20th, after investigations into the allegations, he was arrested at the Welisara Detention Center by officers of the Bribery and Corruption Investigation Commission.
In this situation, it has been reported that the suspect will be produced before the Colombo Chief Court.
