President Anura Celebrates New Year at Rebuilt Home of Cyclone-Affected Family
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake marked the Sinhala and Tamil New Year by celebrating with a family whose home was rebuilt after being destroyed by Cyclone “Dithwa.”
The event took place in Kalnewa, Anuradhapura, where the house was constructed under a government compensation program within five months of the disaster.
The President joined the family in observing New Year rituals at the auspicious time on April 14.
In a Facebook post, he noted that the house is one of six newly built homes for families whose properties were completely destroyed in the area.
He also highlighted that compensation has been provided to 66 partially damaged houses in the same Divisional Secretariat Division.
President Anura expressed satisfaction that the rebuilding efforts were expedited, allowing affected families to celebrate the New Year with joy.
He further stated that despite global challenges and past hardships, it was a moment of pride to stand united with the resilient people of Sri Lanka and share in the festive spirit together.
