Sacred Mango at Pillayar Temple Auctioned for 5 Million Rupees! A Remarkable Event in Kilinochchi
The annual festival of the historic Pannankandi Pillayar Temple, located in the Paranthan 3rd Channel area of Kilinochchi, is currently being celebrated with great splendor.
On the 5th night of the festival (April 10, 2026), a mango that had been offered to Lord Ganesha was put up for public auction. In a display of intense devotion and competition among the worshippers, the mango was sold for a staggering 5,006,000 Sri Lankan Rupees (50.06 Lakhs).
This record-breaking auction has become a major talking point in Kilinochchi, highlighting the deep-rooted religious commitment and the communal spirit surrounding the historic Pannankandi Pillayar Temple.
