On Saturday night, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 23 Indian nationals and seized two fishing trawlers in Jaffna. The individuals and vessels were captured for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing in the northern waters off the Delft Island in Jaffna.
As part of routine patrols to curb unauthorized fishing practices by foreign trawlers, the Northern Naval Command deployed Fast Attack Craft from the Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard. This deployment was prompted by the detection of a group of Indian poaching trawlers engaging in illicit fishing activities.
Following the interception, the arrested fishermen and the trawlers were taken to the Kankasanthurai Harbour. Subsequently, they are set to be handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for further legal action.
