Massive political intrigue behind rice shortage: Wasantha Samarasinghe
In the face of a rice shortage, the parties that lost badly in the elections are planning to create political intrigues to put the government in a crisis, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe has said.
He noted that various intrigues have emerged behind the shortage of essential food items such as rice and coconut. “We will defeat all intrigues through the law,” he added.
He said that appropriate measures have been taken to resolve the rice shortage and that it is not our intention to put rice producers under pressure or question their industry.
He said that the government will implement new schemes to directly purchase paddy from farmers and convert it into rice, and he assured that our actions will continue without ever succumbing to the mafias related to essential food items.
