Hatton-Malliyappu accident – cause of accident!
The private bus that overturned in the Malliyappu area while en route from Hatton to Kandy was examined by the Nuwara Eliya District Motor Vehicle Inspector today
Accordingly, the investigation revealed that the driver’s door lock of the bus was not working in the accident and the driver was thrown from the seat when the door suddenly opened.
At the request of the Hatton Police Traffic Division officers, the Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector inspected the bus under the control of the Police Officer-in-Charge.
It was also reported that the driver was not wearing a safety belt and that several metal devices were installed in the bus, which resulted in serious injuries to the passengers due to the accident.
3 of them died and 50 were injured
Furthermore, the motor inspector told the police that since the seats of the bus were not properly installed, all the seats fell off and collided with each other, causing serious injuries
Furthermore, the Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector asked the traffic police to not allow any equipment to be installed on passenger transport vehicles and to remove the installed equipment
Also, the Hatton Police stated that legal action will be taken against the owner of the bus in the Hatton Magistrate’s Court for operating an unfit bus
