The fate of a young woman due to a soft drink bottle!
A young woman was hospitalized after drinking a soft drink at a cafe located in People’s Park in the outskirts of Colombo.
Police investigations have revealed that the young woman was mistakenly given a bottle of cleaning fluid instead of a soft drink.
The young woman went to the cafe with her mother on December 31. She had ordered food and asked for a soft drink. After drinking the soft drink, she started vomiting.
The woman was immediately admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and treated. Later, she was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases for further treatment. She is currently receiving treatment in the general ward from the intensive care unit.
Based on the complaint of her relatives, the Dame Street Police have recorded the statements of the cafe staff involved in the incident.
The staff said that they were unable to identify the soft drink and the cleaning fluid. As a result, an employee mistakenly gave a bottle containing cleaning fluid instead of a soft drink.
Furthermore, several bottles containing similar cleaning fluid were also found by the police in the cafeteria.
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Dam Road Police and the Colombo Municipal Council Medical Officer of Health.
