Relief for students from low-income families

Deputy Minister of Finance Harshana Sooriyaperuma has stated that a relief of Rs. 6,000 will be provided to school students from Aswesuma beneficiary families and students from families in poverty who do not receive Aswesuma payments.

He also said that measures for this will be taken through the Ministry of Education.

The Deputy Minister made this statement at a media briefing held at the Presidential Media Center yesterday (26).

Stating that the entire population has been affected by the economic situation, he said that along with plans for economic recovery, relief programs are being expanded to provide relief to the concerned parties.

He stated that the government has taken good decisions to reduce the burden on children’s education and that school students from Aswesuma beneficiary families under this organization will be provided with Rs. 6,000 for the upcoming school term.

Similarly, school students from families in poverty who are not covered under the Aswesuma welfare program will be provided with a relief of Rs. 6,000.

He said that the same procedures will be followed in this project as in the past when footwear was provided to school students.
