Minister douglas devananda said that the untoward incidents that took place in the music program led by South Indian singer Harikaran, which took place in the music program led by South Indian singer Harikaran, are regrettable and regretted that such incidents will become an opportunity for selfish parties who want to keep our people in misery.
He said the above while replying to a question asked by a journalist regarding the confusion that occurred at the South Indian film festival which took place yesterday (09.02.2024) in Jaffna’s yard.
In this regard, the Minister of Fisheries further informed,
“‘It is painful that such incidents happen in our territories. While we are expecting investments from our diaspora relations to advance the livelihood and lifestyle of our people to the next level, the occurrence of such inconveniences in an event organized with the efforts of a diaspora investor will cause setbacks to our expectations of people’s welfare.
Self-interested parties who continue to keep our people in misery and thereby achieve political goals, are actively working to spread the idea that investments in our areas are not guaranteed.
Such incidents will strengthen the opinions of such people. Based on the available information, the attendance of more people than the expectations of the organizers and some deficiencies in the organization are the reasons for this unpleasant incident.
This incident has disappointed our people who were eagerly waiting to see the musical performance, South Indian artistes who came with interest as well as the organizers.
I would like to convey my condolences to all those who have been affected, and I would like to emphasize that the organizers should ensure that they discuss with the concerned parties the necessary improvements and safety arrangements when organizing such events in the future.”
