The Police Special Task Force (STF) apprehended an individual without a valid license in Enderamulla, Wattala, during the ‘Yukthiya’ island-wide operation aimed at curbing drug distribution and criminal activities.
The arrest took place on February 2nd, and the 40-year-old suspect, a resident of Badulla, was found in possession of a significant quantity of controlled substances totaling around Rs 100 million.
The STF reported that the individual had 192,000 capsules of 150mg Pregabalin in his possession at the time of the arrest. Subsequently, he was handed over to the Enderamulla Police for further investigations.
As part of the ongoing ‘Yukthiya’ operation, law enforcement and security forces personnel successfully arrested 770 individuals within a 24-hour period ending at 12:30 a.m. on February 3rd.
Among those apprehended, 567 face narcotics-related charges, while 203 were wanted criminal suspects. Six drug suspects have received detention orders, and two have been referred to rehabilitation centers, as stated by the Ministry of Public Security.
The narcotics seized during this operation include 132g of heroin, 121g of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 15.9kg of cannabis, and 5,416 cannabis plants. The concerted efforts under ‘Yukthiya’ aim to tackle the prevalence of drug offenses and criminal activities across the country.
