President Anura’s Special Address
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has assured that there will be no place for racist politics in our country again. He promised that no one will be allowed to raise racist, sectarian, or sloganeering slogans.
He made this statement while presenting the government’s policy statement at the first session of the Tenth Parliament.
“Thank you to all the people who have placed their trust in us and the government,” he said. He added, “Sri Lanka is a democratic country. We can never expect a single party to rule the country.”
Accordingly, we are duty-bound to meet the needs of all citizens. The responsibility to the people has been fulfilled, and I fully accept the responsibility of the people as President.
“We were created for one purpose,” he said during the election campaign. “There is no place for racist politics. There is no place for any sectarianism.”
He further assured that “no place will be given to any form of racism or sectarianism to seize political power again.”
“If everyone is a representative of the people, then everything that is said in Parliament must be known by the people. The country cannot progress without a strong civil service.”
He said that an efficient civil service must be re-established. It should work for the benefit of the people. He stated, “I believe that civil servants have given a strong mandate for that.”
Every citizen need not be isolated on the basis of his religion, culture and language. “There may be political changes, but freedom is common to all,” he said.
Therefore, “it is our responsibility to create a free and democratic state free from fear and suspicion. We will create it,” he assured.
