No Electricity Tariff Revision This Year: PUCSL Announcement
This is due to the delay in submitting proposals for electricity tariff revision by the Ceylon Electricity Board, PUCSL Director Jayanath Herath said.
At the end of September, the Ceylon Electricity Board submitted proposals related to the electricity tariff change to the PUCSL. However, PUCSL stated that the proposals were not sufficient.
The commission notified the Electricity Board to submit new proposals before November 8. However, the proposals were not submitted on that day. After that, it asked for more time until November 22, but no proposals were received on that day.
In this situation, PUCSL has announced that it will give the Electricity Board time until December 6 to submit new proposals. Later, Jayanath Herath said that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to examine the proposals, so the electricity tariff revision will be postponed until next year.
Furthermore, the Ceylon Electricity Board has requested that steps be taken to provide additional allowances to employees as the Ceylon Electricity Board is in profit. The association said that it has been making losses for the last two years, and therefore no additional allowances have been provided.
