Cyclonic Storm “FENGAL” Weakens as It Crosses Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Coasts
The Cyclonic Storm “FENGAL” [pronounced as FEINJAL], which developed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, crossed the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts at 11:30 p.m. on 30th November 2024. The storm is expected to move west-southwestwards and gradually weaken into a deep depression within the next three hours. As a result, the influence of this system on Sri Lanka’s weather is steadily diminishing.
Weather Outlook for Sri Lanka:
- Skies will be cloudy, with occasional showers or thundershowers in the Northern provinces.
- Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and North-central provinces, along with Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
- Showers or thundershowers may also occur at isolated places elsewhere on the island, particularly during the evening or night.
Wind and Safety Advisory:
- Strong winds of 50-55 km/h are possible at times in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Central, and Southern provinces.
- The general public is urged to take precautions to minimize risks from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
