Russian Naval Ship ‘Varyag’ Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with Colombo Port Visit
The Colombo Port welcomed the Russian Naval Ship ‘Varyag‘ on Friday (March 01) for a formal diplomatic visit, strengthening the bonds between the two nations. Adhering to naval traditions, the Sri Lanka Navy greeted the 187m-long Missile Cruiser and its 529-member crew.
Captain 1st Rank Velichko Anatoly Vasicievich holds the position of Flag Officer, while Captain 2nd Rank Glushakov Roman Nikolaevich serves as the Commanding Officer aboard the ‘Varyag.’ The ship’s leadership is scheduled to meet with Rear Admiral Saman Perera, the Commander of the Western Naval Area.
During their stay in Sri Lanka, the ship’s crew will engage in various programs organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, fostering camaraderie and exploring the country’s tourist attractions.
The official visit will conclude with the departure of the ‘Varyag’ from the island on March 03.
