Academics to enter Sri Lankan Parliament for the first time
According to the results of the recently concluded general election, many academics have been elected to Parliament from the National People’s Power (NPP).
For the first time, doctors, teachers, principals, and lawyers have been elected by the people.
Accordingly, 15 doctors from the National People’s Power are going to Parliament.
In that regard, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, Dr. Rizvi Salih, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Dr. Namal Sudarshana, Dr. Nishantha Samaraweera, Dr. Dhammika Patapendi, Dr. Sushil Ranasinghe, Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Dr. S. Thilaganathan, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, Dr. Janaka Senaratne, Dr. Sandaruwan Madarasinghe, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, Dr. Jagath Gunawardena.
In addition, 21 principals including teachers from the National People’s Power are going to Parliament.
In that regard, Shantha Padmakumara, Manjula Suraweera Arachchi, Padmasiri Bandara, Ratnasiri Sunil, Sujeewa Dissanayake, Chandana Tennakoon, Sanjeewa Ranasinghe, Nanda Bandara, Manjula Ratnayake, Ruwan Wijeweera, Chathurie Kangani, Arumugam Jagatheeswaran, Rajeevan Jayachandramurthy, Roshan Akmeemana, Muneer Mulafar, Hemali Weerasekara, Upul Kitsiri, D.K. Jayasundara, S. Pradeep, Aravinda Senarath, Ruwan Mapalagama.
In addition, 16 lawyers from the National People’s Power are also going to Parliament.
In that regard, Sunil Vathagala, Harshana Nanayakkara, Susantha Dodawatha, Nilanthi Kottahachi, Dr. Kausalya Ariyaratne, Hazara Kammana Liyanage, Upul Abeywickrama, Anushka Darshani, Geetha Herath, Sagarika Athawooda, Bhagya Sri Herath, Thushari Jayasinghe, Priyantha Wijeratne, Sarath Kumara, Nilusha Gamage, Hiruni Wijesinghe.
Meanwhile, out of the 21 women who went to represent the 10th Parliament in the recently concluded general election, 19 were elected from the National People’s Power Party and two from the United People’s Power Party.
